MSU Dominates at Fleet Feet Invite

MSU’s two squads recorded 29 season best marks on the way to beating both schools in head-to-head competition at Worthington Arena. The MSU women downed Montana 77-69 and beat Weber State 75-67. The Bobcat men beat Montana 82-67 and Weber State 81-54.
MSU’s strength came in the throwing circle where junior Allison Jones threw an NCAA provisional mark of 50’2.5” in the shot put leading the Bobcat women to a one-two-three placing in the event. In the women’s weight throw, Jones placed second behind Amanda Murphy who threw a personal best 55’11” to win the event and help MSU take the top four places in the event. Jones’ shot put mark is tops currently in the conference.
“What those throwers did is absolutely phenomenal,” head MSU coach Dale Kennedy said. “Our women and men dominated the other two teams in both throwing events.”
The MSU men registered seven personal bests in the two throwing events. Junior Casey Clausen won the men’s shot put with a personal best 55’4.25” for the second best current mark in the conference. Bobcat men Morgan Norgaard and David Phillips placed second and fourth in the event. Junior Pat Eckerson won the weight throw with a mark of 55’6.5” and led the Bobcat men to the top four places in the event followed by David Phillips, Morgan Norgaard and Casey Clausen.
Senior sprinter Autumn Domitrovich placed second in the 400 with a conference qualifying mark of 56.57. She currently has Big Sky Conference qualifying marks in the 55, 200 and 400. Kirsten Lee also registered a BSC qualifying mark in the weight throw.
New conference qualifying marks on the men’s side were achieved by Clausen, Phillips and Norgaard in the weight throw, and Matt Beamer in the men’s 3000.
Defending national champion pole vaulter Ellie Rudy missed an NCAA automatic mark by six inches winning the women’s pole vault at 13’3.5”. MSU currently has four women pole vaulters qualified for the conference championships including Rudy, Brittany Spiers, Stacey Irvine, and Amy Plummer who vaulted her season best Friday tying for second in the event at a height of 12 feet.
