Idaho Rallies to Post 4-3 Win over Bobcat Women

Playing without freshman Missy Harris, who was a last minute scratch due to sickness, MSU head coach Denise Albrecht had to adjust the line-up and it almost paid dividends.
With three new doubles tandems, Montana State (3-5) swept all three spots for the first point of the match.
“In order to give ourselves a chance we knew we had to win the doubles point,” Albrecht said. “I’m proud of the way our players competed. To sweep all three positions was a big step forward.”
Harris, who had MSU’s top singles mark at 6-1, was replaced by Ali Griffin at No. 2. Griffin posted a straight set 6-0, 6-4 win over Idaho’s Daniela Cohen.
“Ali played one of her best matches as a Bobcat,” Albrecht said. “She really stepped up to the challenge, after playing in the No. 4 spot for most of the season.”
The Bobcats took a 3-0 advantage as junior Laura Villegas also won in two sets, defeating Silvia Irimescu 6-0, 6-1.
Idaho’s comeback started at No. 1 singles, where Maria Perevoshchikova posted a 6-3, 6-4 victory over ailing Stephanie Jasper.
“Stephanie was also battling sickness, but she gutted it out,” Albrecht said. “The Idaho kid was very tough and got to everything, but I’m happy with the way Stephanie competed.”
The Vandals then captured wins at Nos. 4 and 5 singles, and secured the match as Yvette Ly notched a 6-1, 6-2 win over Andrea De La Torre.
MSU will host Wyoming on Sunday at 9 a.m. in the Bobcat-Anderson Tennis Center.
