“It was a disappointing team effort,” said MSU head coach Tricia Binford. “We lacked energy, focus and intensity. We need to learn that you just can’t show up and expect to win.”
Montana State (9-13, 3-7) shot 27 percent from the field in the first half, and Northern Arizona (8-16, 5-6) closed out the period on an 8-2 run to stake a 33-25 advantage at intermission.
In the second stanza, a Caty Huntington jumper at the 19:13 mark gave the Lumberjacks a 38-28 lead. NAU held its double-digit advantage the rest of the contest.
Bobcat junior Erica Perry led MSU with a team-high 17 points, connecting on seven-of-10 from the field. She was the only Montana State player to reach double-figures.
Northern Arizona was paced by Huntington with 21 points.
MSU will host Sacramento State on Saturday night in Worthington Arena.
