Bobcat student-athletes completed their eighth annual Toys for Tots drive this past week by donating over $600 worth of purchased toys to the organization. Under the leadership of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), student-athletes were asked to donate money that went toward the purchase of the toys that are distributed each holiday season by local Marine Toys for Tots Foundation to kids who have registered for the program.
Over the 62 years of the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program, Marines have distributed more than 400 million toys to more than 188 million needy children.
"This is a project we enjoy doing every year," said Jamie Thorton, president of SAAC. "The drive to collect money and donate toys really fits with who we are as student-athletes. It's a great way to give back to our community. And who doesn't like toys at Christmas?"
