Montana State defensive end Dane Fletcher earned Big Sky Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors Monday, the league office announced.
A 6-2, 245 lb senior from Bozeman, Fletcher registered 11 tackles, three for a loss, a sack, and a quarterback hurry in MSU's 31-24 overtime win over South Dakota. Fletcher altered the course of the game in the final 20 seconds of regulation. With South Dakota at the Bobcat 49-yard line and the game tied in the last 20 seconds of the fourth quarter, Fletcher sacked USD quarterback Noah Shepard to send the game to overtime. Fletcher ranks second in the nation in tackles-for-loss at 2.08 per game, and his 45.5 career tackles-for-loss is fourth among active players.
Fletcher joined Weber State quarterback Cameron Higgins and WSU return specialist Tim Toone as league honorees.
