Montana State held Sacramento State to 27.3% shooting and blocked 12 Hornets shots, as the Bobcats earned a 61-42 Big Sky Conference win on Thursday.
The Bobcats scored the first 11 points of the game and never looked back in registering the team's first league win of the season after a pair of road losses. "I thought it was really important that we had some success early," Huse said. "I thought that helped our confidence. I think we can still be better offensively, but (the fast start) put them on their heels and got us going."
Erik Rush led the Bobcats with 12 points, while Will Bynum scored 11. Divaldo Mbunga blocked seven shots for Montana State. Justin Eller led the Hornets with 11 points.
The Bobcats held Sacramento State to 27% shooting, MSU's best defensive effort of the season. "I thought it was a good effort by our guys on both ends of the floor," said MSU coach Brad Huse. "We ask our guys to start at the defensive end, and when you're doing that the offense takes care of itself."
Sacramento State closed to 14-11 on a Donald Thomas free throw with 11:13 to play in the first half, MSU took control of the game with a 13-1 run. Mbunga blocked three shots and Rush scored five points in that stretch.
Montana State raised its record to 8-6 with the win, and now stands 1-2 in Big Sky Conference play. Sacramento State is 1-15 overall, 0-3 in the league.
