MSU Men Top Montana and ISU at Dual Invite

MSU triple jumpers Kevin Ludwig (48’3.5”) and Dustin Cichosz (45’11.75”) placed first and second in the final event to push the MSU men over the top against both Big Sky Conference foes. The MSU men beat Montana 79-68 and edged Idaho State 76-75. MSU’s women lost to both schools in the dual event, falling to Montana 78-70 and Idaho State, 79-71.
“We were really excited about how the meet ended up,” MSU head coach Dale Kennedy said. “You can’t ask for better drama than that on the men’s side. To me, that’s what collegiate track and field is all about.”
Freshman Nick Puckett qualified in the 400 meter dash running a personal record of 48.77 and placed third in the 55 and fourth in the 200. His 400 time is currently the second fastest in the conference.
“We’ve see this coming with him,” Kennedy said. “He has a great work ethic in practice and he really lit in up in the 400. There’s a great future for him in track and field.”
MSU teams registered eight new qualifying performances for the Big Sky Conference meet. Distance runners Nick Atwood (mile), Matt Adams (3000, 5000) and Graydon Curry (3000,5000) ran qualifying marks. Adams won the 3000 besting the field by seven seconds. Stacey Irvine qualified in the women’s pole vault tying for second at 12’0”. Amanda Murphy qualified in the shot put with a heave of 42’2.25”. Currently the Bobcats have a total of 34 performances to date qualified for the conference meet.
“I thought we stepped up and made good progress for week two. Now we have to make the adjustment to another track when we travel to Pocatello next week,” head coach Dale Kennedy said.
Bobcat freshman sprinter Nick Puckett placed in the top four in three sprinting events at the meet winning the 400, placing third in the 55 and fourth in the 200. Sophomore Asa Staven won the men’s long jump (22’0.25”) and placed second in the high jump at 6’4”. Teammate Mike Green tied for second in the high jump at 6’2”. Sophomore Bob Biskupiak (Helena) took the men’s pole vault with a leap of 16’0”.

She was followed by junior Kris Shaffer and sophomore Amanda Murphy (Charlo). Senior pole vaulter Ellie Rudy jumped another NCAA provisional mark winning the event at 12’11.5”. She was followed in the event by Stacey Irvine in a tie for second and Brittany Spiers at third. Senior sprinter Autumn Domitrovich won the 200 after false-starting the 100. Junior Amanda DeHaan (Belgrade) won the 55 hurdles.
