MSU Records 18 Big Sky Meet Qualifying Marks at Open

Leading the women with two qualifying performances each were senior sprinter Autumn Domitrovich and junior Ali Jones. Domitrovich beat her 2008 season best in the 55 meter dash with a 7.25 in the preliminary heat and won the final, in addition to winning the women’s 200 as well with a BSC qualifying mark of 25.54. Jones took second in both the weight throw (55'03.75") and shot put (45'10") with conference qualifying marks.
Current national indoor pole vault champion Ellie Rudy reached an NCAA provisional mark in the pole vault winning the event at 12'11.50".
“I’m working on a new approach and some new poles, so I’m okay with that,” Rudy said. “I’ve been working on some mental stuff as well, so I think that’s where a lot of us are at right now is just starting to work up to a higher level of challenge.”
Junior Amanda DeHaan qualified in the 55 meter hurdles (8.58). DeHaan qualified last week in the women’s pentathlon. Butte freshman Sarah McGree, also an earlier qualifier in the pentathlon, qualified in the 55 meter hurdles as well with a mark of 8.59 in a tie for third place in the event behind Amber Akins of Montana and DeHaan.
MSU women finished one-two in both throwing events. Sophomore Amanda Murphy won the weight throw event with a qualifying 55'11", a mark almost three feet better than her 2008 best mark.
“What Amanda did is pretty amazing when you consider this is her first event of the season,” head coach Dale Kennedy said. “Our women throwers really put on a show.”
Junior Kris Shaffer won the women’s shot put with a qualifying heave of 45'10".
Sophomore Jessie Greany tied her career best of 5'4.25" in the high jump to qualify for the conference championships.
On the men’s side, all-conference performer junior Ben Soukup won the 55 meter hurdles with a qualifying time of 7.81 besting rival Landon Bowery of Montana (7.82).
“I had a good start,” Soukup said. “I’m just out there trying to get it done and I’m real happy to get the qualifying part of the season out of the way so I can concentrate on getting faster.”
Nick Atwood qualified in the 3000 meter run with an unadjusted time of 8:27.66, beating the field by over 20 seconds. Pole vaulter Bob Biskupiak (jr.) hit 15'06.25" to qualify for the BSC meet. In the men’s triple jump, MSU men went one-two. Senior Kevin Ludwig (46'06.25") took first over teammate Dustin Cichosz (jr.) (46'05.25"), who beat his 2008 best mark by a foot.
In the men’s throwing events, a trio of MSU men qualified in both the shot put and weight throw. Junior Pat Eckerson took second with a toss of 57'10.50" in the weight throw. Teammates Morgan Norgaard (so.) and Casey Clausen (jr.) threw qualifying marks in the shot put.
Transfer junior Adam Hutter won the long jump with 21'05.25", just short of the BSC qualifying mark.
