Bobcats Fall at Southern Mississippi

Southern Mississippi converted five free throws in the final 40 seconds, holding off Montana State for a 68-60 win in Hattiesburg, Miss., on Saturday.
The Bobcats shot 51% and out-rebounded Southern Miss 33-to-27, but couldn't overcome a 21-to-10 advantage in free throw attempts in absorbing MSU's third straight loss. The Eagles forced 18 Bobcat turnovers, committing just eight.
"We really competed tonight," said MSU coach Brad Huse. "There's no doubt that there is some fight in this team. This was a darn good basketball team from a good league that we played. I'm not into moral victories, but I'm pleased with the fight we showed."
The Bobcats led 32-31 at halftime and jumped to a 34-31 lead to open the second half, but a 13-3 run gave the Eagles a lead the team would never relinquish. MSU drew within 52-50 on Will Bynum's jumper with just over five minutes to play, but the Eagles claimed control by scoring the next six points.
Bynum scored 15 to lead MSU, while Bobby Howard and Divaldo Mbunga each added 12. Howard and Mbunga each grabbed six boards. Craig Craft scored 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Eagles.
