Montana State Women Fall in Overtime to Northern Colorado

Trailing 58-46 with 8:12 remaining in regulation, Montana State (8-10, 2-4) went on a 15-3 run to tie the game at 61-all following a Jenny Heringer three-pointer with 3:44 left.
Northern Colorado (9-9, 3-2) went up 67-65 on a pair of free throws by Whitley Cox at the 1:27 mark, before Heringer knotted the score on a jumper with 11-seconds remaining to force overtime.
“Offensively, I thought we struggled in the first half, but gritted it out on defense,” said MSU head coach Tricia Binford. “In the second half we took a step backward. We fouled a lot, but we fought hard to get back into the game to force overtime.”
In the extra stanza, the lead switched hands ten times before the Bears went on a 7-0 run with 1:26 remaining to secure the win.
The Bobcats played the game without the services of leading scorer and rebounder Nubia Garcia, who suffered a concussion in practice on Wednesday.
Perry ended the game connecting on seven-of-17 from the field, while adding nine rebounds, six steals and five assists.
Heringer broke out of her slump with 19 points on seven-of-14 from the floor. She also added nine rebounds.
Also in double-digits for the Bobcats was Lyndi Seidensticker, who posted a career-high 14 points.
“Obviously, we missed Nubia’s presence,” Binford said. “However, on the positive side, Jenny and Lyndi really gave us a spark off the bench, and both of them had been struggling on offense.”
For the game, MSU shot 40 percent from the field. UNC shot 44 percent from the floor and converted 28-of-36 free throws. The Bobcats went 13-of-16 from the line.
The Bobcats also held a 47-40 advantage in rebounding.
Mara Hoefer, who replaced Garcia in the starting line-up finished with nine points and seven rebounds.
Northern Colorado was led by Whitley Cox, who posted a game-high 31 points.
Montana State will play at Eastern Washington next Thursday.
