The Montana State women’s basketball team will head out on the Big Sky Conference road for three consecutive games, beginning at Northern Colorado, Thursday night in Butler-Hancock Pavilion. The Bobcats won a pair of league home games last weekend, defeating Weber State 65-62, and Idaho State 71-52. MSU is currently 8-9 overall and 2-3 in Big Sky play- good for fifth place in the league standings. Leading the Bobcats in its home sweep was Nubia Garcia. The 6-foot-2 forward from Chihuahua, Mexico averaged 10.5 points and 14.5 rebounds per game, en route to being named the Big Sky Conference Player of the Week. Northern Colorado is also 8-9 overall and 2-2 in Big Sky action. The Bears split a pair of road games last week, defeating Eastern Washington 55-53, before suffering a 92-71 setback at Portland State. UNC is paced by Courtney Stoermer and Whitley Cox, who averaged 11.8 and 11.1 points, respectively.

The Montana State women’s basketball team swept a pair of home games within the friendly confines of Worthington Arena, last weekend. On Thursday, the Bobcats recorded a hard-fought 65-62 decision over Weber State. The game featured three ties and seven lead changes, before MSU took control in the final 1:14 with a Nubia Garcia layup and a pair of free throws by Erica Perry. Garcia registered her third double-double of the season with a game-high 18 points and 13 rebounds. Also in double-figures for Montana State were Perry 17 and Sarah Strand 13. Junior Jenny Heringer only posted three points, but had a strong presence under the glass with nine rebounds. For the game, the Bobcats shot 39 percent from the field and 75 percent from the free throw. MSU completed the weekend sweep with a 71-52 victory over Idaho State on Saturday night. Strand and freshman Katie Bussey paced the Bobcats with 18 points, apiece, while Perry added 12 points and five assists. Bussey guided MSU in the first half with 15 points, while Strand had 15 in the second stanza, including 12 in-a-row.
MSU Player of the Week:
For the second consecutive week, forward Nubia Garcia has been named Montana State University Player of the Week for her efforts against Weber State and Idaho State. In addition, Garcia’s play also garnered Big Sky Conference Player of the Week accolades. For the weekend, the 6-foot-2 native of Chihuahua, Mexico averaged 10.5 points and 14.5 rebounds per game, while shooting 44 percent from the field. In MSU’s win over Weber State, Garcia posted her third double-double of the season with 18 points and 13 rebounds, while adding two assists, two blocks and a steal. Against ISU, she posted a career-high 16 rebounds, along with five assists.
