Staven Chosen Big Sky Field Athlete of the Week

Staven broke an MSU school record in the men’s heptathlon at the MSU Combined Invite last week to receive the honor. He accumulated 5,142 points in the event to break Brad Benjamin’s former record of 5,045 points set in 2006. He also set a conference qualifying mark in the high jump at the same meet.
Staven hails from Georgetown, Texas and is a returning Big Sky all-conference performer in the long jump. Others nominated for the award were David Howard, Eastern Washington; Jed Sion, Idaho State; Mike Washington, Northern Arizona; and Derek Newsom, Portland State.
