Montana State Tennis Standout Earns National Ranking

Smith, who transferred to MSU from Florida Atlantic University, had a strong fall season capped by an appearance at the All-American Tournament in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In addition, Smith turned eyes at the ITA Mountain Regional Tournament, knocking off the No. 2 and 9 seeds.
Smith joins former MSU standout and three-time Big Sky Conference MVP, Federico Ueltschi, as the only players to be nationally ranked. Ueltschi, from Mendoza, Argentina, earned his highest ranking of No. 58 in 2004.
In his final season at Florida Atlantic, Smith notched a 17-7 overall record. During the offseason, Smith won two championships on the ITA summer circuit.
Smith’s ranking is the highest in the Big Sky Conference. The only other league player named in the top 100 is Sacramento State’s Kiryl Harbutsiuk at No. 94.
