MSU Golfers Start Slow at CSU Invite

“It wasn’t what I expected after a long summer of practicing,” head coach Leslie Spalding said, “but some of the players had bright spots.”
Montana State sits 19th of 19 teams after the first two rounds of the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic hosted by Colorado State at Fort Collins. The bright spot of the day was the return of senior Kelly Gillum after a shoulder surgery kept her on the sidelines last year. Gillum shot a seven-over 151 on her first collegiate round since the spring of 2007.
“Kelly looked good and so did Hilary Folkvord who shaved 11 strokes off her first round score to end with a 78 on her final round,” Spalding said.
Conditions were cold and windy at the Classic. Only three teams in the field started the event with sub par rounds; California at 18-under, University of Colorado at 16-under par and Louisville at seven-under.
The event concludes Tuesday with a final 18-hole round.
