Air Force Classic Volleyball Tournament Schedule:
Friday, Sept. 5 -- Montana State vs. UC Davis, 3 p.m.
Friday, Sept. 5 -- Montana State at Air Force, 7 p.m.
Saturday, Sept. 6 -- Montana State vs. No. Carolina State, 1 p.m.
Saturday, Sept. 6 -- Montana State vs. Akron, 5 p.m.

The Montana State volleyball team will embark on its first road trip of the Sara Schaub era when it travels to the Air Force Academy this weekend in Colorado. Montana State (1-2) will face the Falcons, along with UC Davis, North Carolina State and Akron. Last weekend, the Bobcats finished second in its 14th Annual Holiday Inn Classic. No. 9 Washington won the title, with MSU beating out Portland based on sets won. Montana State opened its season with a 25-22, 25-22, 23-25, 25-19 victory over the Pilots. With the victory, the Bobcats matched its win total from the 2007 season. In addition, MSU won five sets (games) over the course of the weekend, which is just two wins shy of the seven games won last fall. Newcomers Taylor Faught and Jodeen Rademacher each garnered Holiday Inn Classic All-Tournament team honors for their efforts.
Looking At The Air Force Classic VB Tournament:
The Bobcats face fours teams that notched a combined 4-9 overall after the first weekend of action. Only UC Davis, MSU’s first opponent at the AFA Tournament, has a winning record heading into the weekend. UC Davis is 2-1 overall, after defeating Fresno State and Cal State Bakersfield. Their lone loss was a 3-1 decision to St. Mary’s. The Aggies were paced last weekend by Renee Ibekwe, a 5-11 senior, who averaged 4.11 kills per game. Host Air Force is currently 1-2 on the season, defeating Kennesaw State, while dropping matches to Southern Mississippi and Buffalo. The Falcons were led by Nichole Stilwell and Jasamine Pettie, who each averaged 2.50 kills. North Carolina State will be looking for its first victory of the season after dropping straight set decisions to VCU, Liberty, Kansas and Central Michigan, last weekend in Richmond, Va. The Wolf Pack is guided by Arlee Tamietti, who recorded 29 kills and hit .118 from the field. Akron went 1-2 last weekend, defeating Rutgers, and losing to Northern Arizona (five sets) and Binghamton. The Zips were guided by Brionna Patterson, a 5-7 outside hitter, who averaged 4.09 kills per game.
The Week That Was:
Montana State opened its season 1-2 at the 14th Annual Holiday Inn Classic. In its first match of the year, the Bobcats matched their win total from 2007 with a 25-22, 25-22, 23-25, 25-19 win over Portland. Newcomer Jodeen Rademacher led MSU with 15 kills, while Nicole Grypiuk and Kyla Hendry added 13 and ten, respectively. Setter Taylor Faught dished out 40 assists and added eight digs. No. 9 Washington handed the Bobcats a 25-18, 25-17, 25-14 setback on Friday night. MSU was paced by senior Kaytlin Van Burger, who posted six kills, a .364 attack mark and two blocks. In the Holiday Inn Classic finale, Portland overcame a 10-5 MSU lead in the fifth set to notch a 25-20, 18-25, 25-19, 21-25, 15-13 victory. Three Bobcats reached double-digit kills, led by Rademacher 18, Van Burger 11 and Grypiuk 11. Faught recorded 51 assists and 11 digs, while Meghan Albiston tallied a match-high 25 digs and Hendry logged a match-high seven blocks.
Stand Up and Cheer:
Despite its 1-27 overall record and 0-12 home slate, the Bobcats averaged 840 fans per game, which was the best in the Big Sky Conference. MSU drew a season-best 1,287 for the annual ‘Cat-Griz match. Montana State averaged 755 fans last weekend.
Player of the Week:
Sophomore transfer Jodeen Rademacher was named Montana State’s Player of the Week for her efforts at the Holiday Inn Classic over the weekend. The 6-0 native of Adams, Neb., averaged 3.17 kills, while hitting a team-best .337 from the floor. In addition, she ended the weekend averaging 2.00 digs. In both matches against Portland, Rademacher tallied double-digit kills, with a best of 18 on Saturday night, while hitting .444 from the field. She also posted two sevice aces and five blocks.
