Bobcat Athletics Announces Mascot Makeover and Opening Football Events

All Bobcat fans are encouraged to pick up the new official 2008 Gold Rush t-shirt at all Universal Athletic Service outlets starting August 15, and wear them at the Bobcat Football home opener versus Adams State. Kickoff is at 1:05 p.m. with the traditional Bobcat Prowl starting at 11:45 a.m.
Excitement is also brewing about the extreme makeover of longtime mascot, Champ. Starting this fall, fans will see a different looking Champ on the field and on the courts.
Bobcat fans can read about the makeover and see an exciting preview of the new look in Champ’s Blog at www.msubobcats.com. In addition to updated blog entries, a sneak peek of the new and improved CHAMP will be unveiled every week leading up to Family Fun Day on August 23rd at 1:00 p.m. where the new Champ will make his first official public appearance. Family Fun Day is open to the public and will feature Bobcat Football players, coaches and Spirit Squad members signing autographs at Bobcat Field.
MSU Athletics is hosting the first ever “Trick Your Tailgate” decoration competition for the home opener as well. Bobcat tailgaters are encouraged decorate their tailgating vehicles and spaces in a manner that best represents their Bobcat Spirit around the theme of the “Gold Rush.” Athletic Department staff will serve as judges for the competition, and prizes will be awarded for the tailgating spots that show the most Bobcat Spirit.
