Bell Leaves MSU Program

Freshman quarterback Darius Bell has left the Bobcat program, MSU coach Rob Ash said on Thursday. Bell indicated to Ash that he was leaving for personal reasons, and has returned to his home in San Francisco, Calif.

While starting center Jim Verlanic was ruled out of action for Saturday, Thursday brought Rob Ash some good news on the injury front. Verlanic will miss Saturday's game with the high ankle sprain that has kept him from practicing for the past couple of weeks.
On the positive side, Ash said, safeties Kevin Retoriano and Jordan Craney both took steps forward on Thursday. Craney got the green light, while Retoriano was upgraded from doubtful to questionable. Offensive linemen Neil Boyce and linebacker Clay Bignell each missed practice this week, but each were cleared on Thursday.

Montana State athletic ticket manager Michelle Cook said that around 700 tickets remain for Saturday's season opener against Adams State.
Saturday's game, billed as this year's Gold Rush during which MSU fans are urged to wear yellow to the game. Gold Rush t-shirts are available at Universal Athletics.
Saturday's contest marks the first game Montana State plays on its new artificial playing surface. The Bobcats' 1984 National Championship team, which donated the new field, will be honored.
