The Bobcats held pair of Bobcat freshmen, quarterback Darius Bell and linebacker Jimmy Ekumah, out of practice Monday. Each of the two has paperwork missing from the NCAA Eligibility Center (formerly the NCAA Clearinghouse). Ash indicated that MSU officials expect to clear the matter up this week.

With center Jim Verlanic improving but still expected to miss much of this week, redshirt freshmen Conrad Burbank and Alex Terrien have manned the guard spots surrounding Jeff Hansen, who has moved from guard to center. Mike Person and Lou Saucedo enter the year as MSU's starting tackles.

Ash indicated that three true freshmen remain under strong consideration for varsity action this fall. Jason Cunningham is likely to handle place-kicking duties, particularly with Eric Fisher struggling with an off-and-on leg injury during fall camp. Receiver DeSean Thomas will almost certainly see action on both offense and return teams, while running back C.J. Palmer's presence as a larger back lends itself to short-yardage situations.

Montana State will honor members of the 1984 National Championship for their part in contributing Bobcat Stadium's new playing surface at the season opener against Adams State on August 30. Former MSU coach Dave Arnold and as many as 25 players expected to be on hand.
