Receiver DeAndre Green suffered a shoulder injury in practice on Monday, and will miss at least the remainder of this week. A senior, Green missed last season with an eligibility issue. Ash describes Green's injury as "fairly serious for now, but not season-threatening at all."

DeAndre Green's injury status altered one other area on the Bobcat depth chart. After spending all spring and the fist week of fall camp in the red jersey denoting the hands-off status assigned to quarterbacks, Desin was in a blue jersey on Wednesday.
"That's not something I intended to do," Ash said of Desin's temporary move back to receiver, "but with DeAndre's injury depleting our depth in the receiver group I decided that I would put Mark down there to sort of replace DeAndre for a while. That gives (Desin) some reps there. It was a spur of the moment decision, Mark will still play quarterback. He'll wear a red jersey when he's at quarterback, but he'll be in a blue jersey when he's at receiver."
Ash said that while Desin's exact role in Montana State's offense continues to unfold, his importance is not in question. "Mark Desin's going to play a lot of plays this year," Ash said. "I'm not sure exactly where, but he's going to play a lot of plays."

Bobcat freshman Matt Bernard remains on the sideline as MSU officials await word on an eligibility issue from the NCAA Eligibility Center. Once Bernard (OL, Gig Harbor, Wash.) is cleared he will begin the five-day acclimation period.

The Bobcat staff took advantage of Wednesday morning's team segment in the Stadium to stage a scrimmage-like situation utilizing the play clock and game officials.
The big moment of the session came at the end, when the Bobcat offense lost a fumble in a simulated overtime period.
"That was a great teaching moment, because the guys were like, OK, what's next? There isn't a next. If you fumble on the last possession in overtime the game is over. That was a great teaching point for everybody on both teams. A turnover is so critically important, especially in an overtime situation. I'm not happy it happened because I don't like any fumbles on our team, but the fact that it happened in practice was a great teaching time for our football team."

Utilizing the play clock gave the Bobcats their first live look at the new timing rules that go into effect this year. Under the new system, the play clock is reset to 40 seconds after a play terminated by a tackle inbounds, as well as some other circumstances.
Ash was pleased to get that work in. "I was very concerned about the new clock rules, and I wanted to get our players out here to see it. I was extremely pleased with how we handled it."
Montana State's offense was whistled for only one delay of game in the scrimmage, which came because of substitution confusion rather than clock mismanagement. "We got our plays off," he said. "I think our team understands the tempo a little better now, I feel more comfortable now because I know we're in good shape, and our clock operators got some practice, also. It was really good to be able to do it. Now I don't think I'll worry about it the rest of the preseason because I think we're in pretty good shape."
