After watching film of for most of Sunday, Bobcat coach Rob Ash saw even more to like in Saturday's first live scrimmage of the fall than he did from the sideline.
After a slow start, Ash said the Bobcat defense set the tone for the day. "Defensively I was pretty happy after the first series," Ash said. "I thought the defense was a little slow (to start), but got better. We had a lot of great hustle plays, where guys were really working hard to get to the ball. The defense did a great job on a takeaway, knocking a ball loose, and had a couple interceptions on the day. We were pretty much in the right spots."
With the Bobcat offense in the middle of installing its scheme, Ash expected some rough edges from that unit on Saturday. Still, bright spots emerged. "Offensively, when we ran the play properly, got off to the right start, got the center snap, it was fine. We really have to clean up some procedure penalties, and some center-quarterback exchange issues. We're still having problems with the number two center spot, where we really don't have any kind of experience at all."
