Missy Harris, a senior at Billings Senior, and Jennifer Coll, a native of Fountain Hills, Arizona, will join the Bobcat squad.
Harris recently won her fourth straight Montana Class AA singles title. En route, she posted a four-year mark of 73-0. During her career with the Broncs, Harris never dropped a set in high school play.
She became only the third female in Montana history to have won four singles championships.
“There is no doubt that she is one of the best players in the history of Montana tennis,” said MSU head coach Denise Albrecht. “We are extremely excited that she is a Bobcat.
“Missy is a great competitor and person,” Albrecht added. “She comes from an outstanding family that has played a major role in the development of tennis within the state. She is going to have a super collegiate career.”
Harris, who led Billings Senior to the 2007 state title, is a four-time academic all-state selection and a four-time all-state performer.
In addition, Harris will serve as valedictorian of her high school class. She is also a member of the National Honor Society.
She is the daughter of Don and Cheryl Harris of Billings.
Coll, who sat out the 2007-08 season at Boise State, will have four years of eligibility at MSU.
As a prepster, she led her high school team to the 2006 Arizona State 3A team championship, while also capturing the individual 3A singles title. In addition, Coll was ranked in the United States Tennis Association Southwest Division as No. 23 in the 16 and under age group. She also ranked No. 37 at the 18 and under level.
“Jennifer has an impressive resume` and she’ll be a major part of our squad next season,” Albrecht said. “Although she sat out last year, Jennifer was able to be part of a program that ranked among the top 50 in the country, and those experiences will certainly pay dividends next season.”
Montana State recently finished its season with a 12-6 overall record and a 6-2 Big Sky ledger. MSU’s success this spring was its best since the 1997 campaign- when it notched a 17-9 overall mark.
