Bobcat Men Second after Day 3 of Big Sky Meet

Montana State's men rode a wave of points in the field events into second place after Day 3 of the 2008 Big Sky Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Sacramento. The Bobcat women stand fifth after three days.
The decisive final day is Saturday.
Nick Lam narrowly missed a conference championship, finishing second in the men's javelin by one inch, but he led a Bobcat contingent that netted 22 points in that event. Dustin Degen was third, Dan van Swearingen fourth, and Taylor Hensen sixth.
The javelin was one of four men's events in which MSU registered multiple placewinners on Friday. Mike Green (5th) and Asa Staven (8th) turned the trick in the high jump, Nick Morrow (3rd) and Bob Biskupiak (7th) did so in the pole vault, and Morgan Norgaard (5th) and Casey Clausen (6th) scored points in the shot put.
MSU's strong hammer throw group led the way on the women's side. Karen Helvey (4th), Lise Kilgore (5th), Amanda Murphy (6th), and Emily Willmuth (8th) grabbed 13 points for MSU. Elisabeth Driscoll was fourth in the 10,000, while Kirstin Lee was fourth in the discus.
