Former Bobcat Speaks at College of Ag Graduation

Jeresek, a 2003 Land Resource Sciences graduate, hails from Libby and played women’s basketball at MSU from 1999-2003. She was a team captain in addition to a Big Sky Conference all-academic selection. Presently, she works as a lawyer for Karnopp Petersen LLC in Bend, Oregon and specializes in the areas of land use litigation and tribal law.
“I got interested in environmental law being raised in Libby.” Jeresek said. “I got to see first hand the extreme injustice of environmental crime and the toll it takes on a community.”
Jeresek attended law school at Lewis and Clark College in Portland after graduating from MSU. At Lewis and Clark, she received a certification in Environmental and Natural Resources Law.
“Going through law school was similar to being a student-athlete,” Jeresek said. “Both required a lot of organization skills and time management. I used the same work ethic in law school I developed as a student-athlete.”
While at MSU, Jeresek was honored as an Award of Excellence outstanding senior and the 2003 College of Agriculture Outstanding Senior. College of Ag Dean Jeff Jacobsen invited Jeresek to address this year’s ag graduates.
“My message to the graduates is about roots,” Jeresek said, “how to acknowledge and embrace where you’ve come from. People in Montana don’t realize how much of an asset being from Montana is. Your roots create your opportunities,” she added.
