Four Cat Gridders Earn Academic Honors

Four Montana State football players earned induction into the National Football Foundation's Hampshire Honor Society on Wednesday, joining 439 other players from all four-year divisions nationwide in the honor.
Tight End Elliott Barnhart, linebacker Will Claggett, tight end Ty McDonald and quarterback Jack Rolovich each earned Hampshire Foundation membership, joining five other Big Sky Conference players. MSU is the only league school with more than two honorees.
Senior student-athletes qualify for membership by maintaining a minimum 3.2 grade point average, seeing significant playing time at an accredited four-year school, and meeting NCAA progress-toward-degree requirements. The program was initiated by Army Hall-of-Famer Red Blaik nearly 50 years ago.
Since its inception, the NFF National Scholar-Athlete Awards program has awarded $8.6 million to 693 top scholars and community leaders. Currently, the NFF distributes more than $300,000 a year at the national level through the program to 15 individuals.
