Bobcat Gridders Head to Great Falls

Rob Ash gets to check another milestone off his list on Saturday, when the Bobcat football coach participates in his first MSU spring game at the Triangle Classic in Great Falls.
"I'm really looking forward to it," Ash said of the scrimmage that kicks off at Great Falls High School's Memorial Stadium Saturday at 1 pm. "I've heard so much about the Triangle Classic, and it's really become a great tradition. I know the people in Great Falls and the surrounding area put in a tremendous amount of work and take a great deal of pride in this event."
The Bobcats conduct a live scrimmage between the defense and offense. Ash indicated the offense scores in a traditional manner Saturday, while the defense attains points for stops and three-and-outs in addition to touchdowns.
Montana State's offense will be somewhat limited Saturday, with running backs Aaron Mason and Demetrius Crawford unavailable due to nagging leg injuries. Great Falls CMR product Jeff Hansen is also unavailable with a shoulder injury.
"We're limited in the running game, for sure," Ash said. "I'm looking forward to seeing how the quarterbacks respond to live situations, and we'll be watching to see which receivers are able to separate a little from the pack."
Returning sophomore Jordan Rasmussen has waged a spirited battle for starting honors at quarterback with junior college transfer Mark Iddins and Mark Desin, who lettered for the Bobcats at receiver last fall. "I've been pleasantly surprised by Jordan's performance," Ash said. "He's still progressing, but he's performed well. Iddins is really an efficient passer, he completes a high percentage. Desin really complements those two with his athletic ability."
Ash indicated the three-way competition isn't likely to be settled Saturday. "We're planning on carrying this over to the fall. I like what I've seen from each. It would be a much different feeling if we didn't have people stepping up and performing well, but things change in the fall."
Saturday's scrimmage will be timed live. MSU also hosts cheer and football clinics at 10 am at Memorial Stadium on Saturday.
