Bobcat Men Sweep Jacks to Advance to Semifinals

The Bobcats, who entered the tournament as the No. 4 seed will face No. 2 Eastern Washington on Saturday, thanks to No. 6 Montana- who upset No. 3 Weber State 4-0 on Friday, as well.
“It doesn’t matter who we play,” said MSU head coach Mike Phillips. “It still takes three wins to capture a championship.”
Montana State (13-11) opened the match claiming the doubles point behind the efforts of its Nos. 1 and 2 tandems. The Bobcats’ top tandem of Kyle McDonald and Jakub Dybala paced MSU with an 8-3 victory over NAU’s Jeffrey Morys and Ryan Fraser.
Montana State took a 2-0 advantage as Dybala recorded a 6-3, 6-2 win over Bradley Bristow at No. 2 singles. Freshman Pawel Turzanski and senior Justin Hauck notched straight set victories at No. 3 and 5, respectively to secure the win.
“We’re playing with a lot of confidence,” Phillips said. “I believe we’re peaking at the right time. I truly believe that this championship is wide open, as evident in Montana’s upset over Weber State.”
Eastern Washington defeated Montana State 4-3 earlier this season. The match is slated for 3 p.m. (MST).
