Bobcat Men Beat Griz; Women Topple Utah State

The Bobcat also found the win column, posting its second straight 7-0 victory with a non-conference decision over Utah State in Logan.
The Montana State men earned an important Big Sky match to most likely secure a No. 4 or 5 seed at next weekend’s conference tournament at Sacramento State.
Montana opened the match winning the doubles point by capturing contests at No. 2 and 3. MSU’s lone win came at No. 1, where Kyle McDonald and Jakub
Dybala posted an 8-6 win over Colin Dektar and Mikolaj Borkowski.
McDonald, a senior from Casper, Wyo., tied the score with a straight set victory over Dektar at No. 1 singles. The Grizzlies countered with win at Nos. 3 and 6 singles to take a 3-1 advantage in the match.
The Bobcats fought back sweeping the final three matches to secure the victory. With the match tied at 3-all, MSU freshmen Fletcher Keyes held off Raydner Ramos in a third set tie-beak to record a 6-1, 1-6, 7-6 (3) win.
“It was a great win and was one of best matches of the season,” said MSU head coach Mike Phillips. “Montana is tough, but we dug-in and fought back.
“Freshman Fletcher Keyes got the game ball,” Phillips added. “He was put in a tough position to pull off a win over a player that had beaten him earlier this season, but he got the job done. This was one of the most exciting matches of my career.”
The Bobcat men will conclude regular-season play on Sunday when it hosts Northern Colorado at 10 a.m., at the Bobcat-Anderson Tennis Center.
The Montana State women continued its winning streak, sweeping the Aggies, Friday afternoon at Utah State.
MSU captured all three doubles matches and swept all six singles spots in straight set decisions.
“We are a very focused team,” said MSU women’s coach Denise Albrecht. “We are playing great tennis and the players are doing a super job with the mental aspect of the game.”
MSU will close out its regular-season slate at Idaho State, Saturday morning in Pocatello.
