Bobcats Schedule Weekend Practices

Even as clouds threatened to roll into the Gallatin Valley on Friday, a big one lifted for Montana State football coach Rob Ash.
"We're fortunate that the Fieldhouse is wide open this weekend, so we can get inside and practice Saturday and Sunday if the need arises," Ash said, referring to stormy weekend weather forecasts. "That gives us the ability to get through 12 practices by the end of the weekend, so we know we'll be able to get all our work done before the scrimmage in Great Falls (on April 26).
"So that cloud's finally lifted," Ash said, "and it's a relief."
Ash indicated that the Bobcats plan to practice Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoon, and pending weather and field conditions could scrimmage on Sunday. He wasn't concerned about the limitations of potential indoor practices.
"We'll still get into huddles, we'll look at formations, we'll see reads and reactions, and it's probably good for the team's health," Ash said. "I'm always a silver-lining guy, and we've gotten the work done that we need to get done."
Ash said as his squad heads into the home stretch of spring drills plenty remains to work on during the spring. "Offensively, we continue to work on timing in the passing game," he said. "That includes route assignments and depth, but also getting the ball out on time and to the right place. Defensively we're working on our depth, but I'm very happy with how fast the defense is playing right now."
Weekend plans call for the team to practice Friday at 4 pm and Saturday at 12:45 pm, with a 3:00 scrimmage set for Sunday.

Ash said the Bobcats ended Thursday's practice on a high note, when kicker Eric Fisher nailed a 42-yard field goal to close a two-minute drill. "He nailed it," Ash said. Ash also lauded the defense for its work over the course of the day's "mini-scrimmage," which featured first- and third-down situations. "The defense won those challenges, and they did a great job."
