Coming:
Apr.16-18: at Azusa Pacific Invite
Apr. 19: at Long Beach State Invite
Montana State track and field will load up 38 athletes to make the trek to the Azusa Pacific and Long Beach State Invites this week. Multi event participants Asa Staven (fr.), Mike Green (sr.) and Kelsey Cooley(sr.) will compete on Apr. 16-17. The full slate of track and field events will take place in Los Angeles on April 18. On Saturday, Apr. 19, the team will travel south to Long Beach for a full day of events at the Long Beach Invite.
Last Week:
Montana State throwers dominated the day at the MSU Invite on Saturday, April 12. Freshmen Lena Suek and Emily Tyrrell threw regional qualifying marks in the javelin along with senior Kim Berg. Five Bobcat women threw conference qualifying marks in the hammer including a regional qualifying throw by Ali Jones. Three new regional qualifying javelin throws on the men’s side by Dan van Swearingen, Taylor Hensen and Dustin Degen added to Nick Lam’s qualifying throw from the week before.

Montana State men’s tennis heads into their final weekend of conference competition this week with one on the road and one home. The ‘Cats will meet the Griz at Missoula for their second match of the season. MSU won the first meeting, 4-3. The final conference matchup of the year is at home with MSU taking on Northern Colorado. The Bears are winless in the conference this year.
Women’s Tennis (9-5, 4-2)

Apr. 13: won at Montana, 5-2
The Montana State women’s tennis team posted its third consecutive Big Sky Conference victory, downing intrastate rival Montana 5-2, Sunday morning at the Lindsay Tennis Center. Montana State (9-5, 4-2) opened the match winning the doubles point at Nos. 2 and 3, sparked by an 8-3 win by Nuria Hernandez and McKenzie Hilmer over UM’s Martyna Nowak and Danni Paulson. Bobcat senior Remy Clark opened singles play with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Rebecca Bran. Freshman Stephanie Jasper followed with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Liz Walker at No. 1 singles to give MSU a 3-0 advantage. Montana State secured the match at No. 4 singles as sophomore Ali Griffin notched a 6-2, 7-6 win over Nowak. Griffin rallied from a 5-2 deficit in the second set to post the victory. MSU’s final point came at No. 3 singles, where Laura Villegas dispatched Danni Paulson 7-6, 6-2.

Women’s tennis winds up their regular season this week as well with three road matches. The ‘Cats currently have a solid hold on third place in the conference behind Sacramento State and Northern Arizona. The conference meet in Sacramento starts April 24.

Last Week:
Coming off a season-best on Monday and Tuesday at the Cowgirl Invite in Chandler, Arizona, junior LaRae Smith tackled the Big Sky conference Preview head on shooting a team low 78 and placing fifth in the event. MSU placed seventh in the event won by Northern Arizona.
Smith placed tenth at the Cowgirl Invite at Chandler, Arizona just before the conference preview event with a season’s best of 153 for the 36-hole event. The ‘Cats placed 16th at the invite hosted by the University of Wyoming.

Spring Football
The annual Spring Game is scheduled for April 26th in Great Falls at 1:00 p.m. Tickets are $5 and will be available at the gate at Memorial Stadium. The Friday night banquet is sold out.
