Montana State Women’s Tennis Team Trees Griz

Montana State (9-5, 4-2) opened the match winning the doubles point at Nos. 2 and 3, sparked by an 8-3 win by Nuria Hernandez and McKenzie Hilmer over UM’s Martyna Nowak and Danni Paulson.
“We’ve struggled getting the doubles point this season,” said MSU head coach Denise Albrecht. “We set our minds to relax and have fun with it against Montana, and to the players credit they didn’t put a lot of pressure on themselves and it paid off. It’s crucial to get that first point.”
Bobcat senior Remy Clark opened singles play with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Rebecca Bran. Freshman Stephanie Jasper followed with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Liz Walker at No. 1 singles to give MSU a 3-0 advantage.
Montana State secured the match at No. 4 singles as sophomore Ali Griffin notched a 6-2, 7-6 win over Nowak. Griffin rallied from a 5-2 deficit in the second set to post the victory.
“Getting the doubles point really set the tone for the rest of the match,” Albrecht said. “We had a lot of fire heading into singles and the players were determined to get the victory.”
MSU’s final point came at No. 3 singles, where Laura Villegas dispatched Danni Paulson 7-6, 6-2.
Montana State will play at Utah State on April 17.
