MSU Women’s Tennis Team Cruises by Portland State

“It wasn’t looking to good at the start,” said MSU women’s coach Denise Albrecht. “We dropped the doubles point, and then were down a set at Nos. 2, 4 and 5. Fortunately, we dug down deep and came back. It was a super team victory.”
Portland State opened the match winning at Nos. 1 and 3 doubles. Montana State’s (8-4, 3-2) lone win in doubles action came at No. 2, where Stephanie Jasper and Laura Villegas defeated Alyssa Ferry and Kaitlin Stocking 8-3.
The Bobcats found themselves trailing in three singles matches as Nuria Hernandez, Ali Griffin and Remy Clark all dropped first sets. However, all three stormed back to win in three sets to go along with straight set victories by Jasper, Villegas and McKenzie Hilmer.
“We had a lot of fight and wanted it bad,” Albrecht said. “We knew we had to win this match, and once we got over the fact of playing our first game outside, we just kept going and slugged it out.”
MSU will play No. 37 Washington State on Saturday at 10 a.m., before traveling to Missoula and facing the Grizzlies on Sunday morning.
