Johnson Takes Sixth at NCAA Qualifier

Johnson’s time of 46.72 is .04 slower than his 2008 best of 46.68 at the Big Sky Conference meet in Pocatello. The time should be good enough to cement Johnson’s place in the NCAA national championships to be held in Fayetteville, Arkansas next weekend. Going into today’s race, Johnson’s time ranked him eighth in the country.
“This is the meet where all the good 400 runners are going,” MSU head coach Dale Kennedy said. “Last year Dan went to the Washington Last Chance but didn’t get any real competition there. This year, we looked all around to see where the faster 400 runners were going and chose Ames,” Kennedy continued.
Three of the runners that finished ahead of Johnson at the meet today were below Johnson nationally coming into this weekend. The field for the men's 400 will be set over the weekend. Johnson needs to be in the top 14 to insure a spot at the national competition.
