Kiesel Skis Way to 12th Place Finish at NCAA Championship

Kiesel, who clocked a time of 58:47.3, just missed All-America honors by 17-seconds. The top 10 finishers earn the prestigious honor.
“Kaelin had an excellent championship,” said MSU Nordic coach Grethe Hagensen. “I’m very proud of her. You want to save your best performances for the championships, and that’s exactly what she did. She’s such a great competitor.”
Bobcat junior Claire Rennie, who participated in her third NCAA meet, finished 34th overall in 1:05.39.
Colorado’s Maria Grevsgaard won her second Nordic title in three days with a clocking of 55:04.6.
The Bobcat men’s team was paced by sophomore Gunnar Kristiansen, who finished 36th in 1:11.20. Anders Folleraas, who had been MSU’s top performer all year, was sidelined with strep throat.
“The guys had a disappointing championship,” Hagensen said. “However, I think Gunnar will learn from the experience and be a stronger racer next year.
“Anders’ illness is heartbreaking, because he is such a smart skier,” Hagensen added. “He was having an outstanding season.”
Marius Korthauer of Alaska-Fairbanks won the men’s title on his 24th birthday in a time of 1:03.07.
Behind its strong Nordic performance, Colorado reclaimed the team lead from Denver, posting 483 points. The Buffs are followed in the top five by DU 465.5, Utah 429, Dartmouth 412 and Middlebury 401.
Montana State is in 15th place with 112 points.
