Bobcats Set for 2008 NCAA Skiing Championships

Two weeks after hosting the NCAA Western Regional at Bridger Bowl and Bohart Ranch, the Montana State ski program will play host to the 2008 NCAA Skiing Championships, March 5-8. The championship will mark the sixth time that MSU has hosted the nation’s best skiers. The Bobcats hosted in 1960, 1983, 1985, 1996 and 1998.

ABOUT THE BOBCATS:
The Montana State skiing program qualified six athletes for the 2008 National Championships, including three athletes who competed last year. Here is a look at this season’s MSU national qualifiers:
Claire Rennie: Rennie, a junior from Ottawa, Canada will be making her third appearance at the national meet. Rennie had a solid 2008 season, which included a season-best performance of second in the freestyle at Utah. Last year, Rennie just missed All-America status finishing 11th overall in the freestyle, while placing 29th in classic. As a freshman, she placed 30th and 34th, respectively, in freestyle and classical at the 2006 national championships hosted by the University of Colorado.
Toby LaMar: In just his second season with the Bobcats, LaMar will make another trip to the NCAAs. This winter, LeMar posted a season-best seventh place showing in the slalom at the New Mexico Invitational. Last year, at the NCAA meet, LaMar finished 19th overall in the slalom, and 34th in the giant slalom.
Anders Folleraas: After transferring from the University of Vermont, Folleraas has found his stride at MSU. The native of Lillehammer, Norway recorded six top ten finishes, including a third place showing on the podium at the Colorado Invite in the freestyle. Last winter at UVM, Folleraas placed 21st in free and 33rd in classic at the 2007 NCAA meet at New Hampshire.
Gunnar Kristiansen: Kristiansen is in his first season with the Bobcats and is making his first trip to the NCAAs in the Blue and Gold. Kristiansen was MSU’s #2 skier this winter, and posted a season-best sixth place finish in the freestyle at the New Mexico Invitational. In all, Kristiansen had four top ten finishes this winter.
Kaelin Kiesel: Kiesel has had a sensational rookie season for the Bobcats and finished-out the winter skiing her best. In her last six races, she has posted five top ten finishes, including a season-best fifth place showing in the freestyle at the Western State Invitational.
Chinon ‘Chichi’ Williams: MSU’s lone senior to qualify for the NCAAs, Williams is also making her first appearance at the national meet. Her best mark of the season was a tenth place finish in the GS at the MSU qualifier.
