The match against the Vandals was the first of three to be played in the BATC this weekend.
“It was a good, solid effort by our guys,” said MSU head coach Mike Phillips. “The last few matches we’ve been close, so it’s nice to break through with a win.
“It was also nice to see the bottom of our ladder come through, “Phillips added. “Kyle McDonald has really been carrying us, so it’s great that we had some other kids step-up.”
Montana State (6-9) won the opening doubles point, sweeping all three matches. MSU’s No. 1 tandem of McDonald and Jakub Dybala posted an 8-6 victory over Idaho’s Stanislav Glukhov and Andrey Potapkin, giving the Bobcat twosome a 10-3 mark on the season.
After dropping matches at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, Dybala, Fletcher Keyes, Justin Hauck and Esteban Ferrero all recorded victories, including a three set win at No. 3, where Keyes posted a 6-2, 5-7, 6-0 win over Robert Chalkley.
MSU will face Sacramento State on Saturday at 10 a.m., and will conclude weekend action against Montana on Sunday at 10 a.m.
