Indoor Track and Field
Last Week:
Montana State junior Ellie Rudy won her second indoor national championship in the pole vault Saturday at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships at the University of Arkansas. Her winning height of 14 feet, 1.25 inches tied with April Kubishta of Arizona State. Rudy, however, won the event by virtue of less misses. The championship is Rudy’s second consecutive in the indoor event.
Senior sprinter Dan Johnson failed to make it out of the preliminaries in the 400, getting boxed in behind slower runners in the race and clocking only a 47.44.

Montana State finished their 2007-08 season with a trip to the BSC finals at Dahlberg Arena in Missoula. The Griz proved too much for the weary and injured ‘Cats in the final game as MSU fell 105-65. After upsetting Idaho State in the semifinals and defeating a scrappy Northern Arizona squad on Thursday, the Bobcats ran out of gas.
Montana State was paced in the loss by Krislyn Wallace, who notched her fourth double-double of the season with 17 points and 12 rebounds. For her efforts, she was named to the Big Sky Conference All-Tournament team.
MSU’s loss to Montana was the sixth time the Bobcats have finished second at the Big Sky Tournament. MSU’s only Big Sky title came in 1993…Rebecca Mercer finished her career as MSU’s all-time single-season leader in three-point field goals with 78 treys. The mark is also the second-best ever recorded in Big Sky Conference single-season history…Erica Perry’s 88 steals are the is fourth best in MSU history and eighth best in Big Sky single-season lore…Perry’s 146 assists are the fifth most in a single-season at MSU.

Mar. 17-19: Dr. Donnis Thompson Invite hosted by University of Hawaii
Montana State golfers tee off Monday at Kaneohe, Hawaii in the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invite hosted by the University of Hawaii. The three-day event runs March 17-19 and includes 54 holes. MSU golfers making the trip include LaRae Smith (1), Shannon Donegan (2), Kate Steffanich (3), Stephanie Simmons (4), Hillary Folkvord (5).
Basketball News and Honors
Carlos Taylor earned All-District VIII honors in U.S. Basketball Writers Association all-district voting, the organization announced last week. Taylor was also a Big Sky All-Conference selection. An All-Big Sky Conference selection and a finalist for the V Foundation Comeback Award, Taylor leads the Big Sky Conference with 18.1 points a game, and also averages 3.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 0.9 steals a game.
Montana State senior Rebecca Mercer was named to the 2008 Big Sky Conference First-Team for her efforts this season, while Bobcat sophomore Jenny Heringer garnered second-team accolades. Krislyn Wallace and Erica Perry were chosen as BSC All-Tournament Team selections as well.
