“We shot consistently today,” Spalding said. “It took them a while to settle down, but they all found a rhythm and did well.”
Junior LaRae Smith leads the Bobcats with an 81 and the rest of her teammates are within eight strokes.
“It is a tough course, but absolutely breath-taking,” Spalding said. “It’s a different kind of grass than the girls have seen on some of the holes close to the ocean, but the course is spectacular. And the teams here are tough.”
The University of Arizona leads the tournament with a team score of minus two under par. They are followed by Oklahoma University at three over par and Arizona State at 13 over. MSU had a first day team score of 42 over par at 330.
The three-day, 54-hole event will conclude on Wednesday.
