Bobcats Fall to Northern Colorado

Northern Colorado shot 65% and out-rebounded Montana 34 to 25, capturing a 91-79 win over the Bobcats on Saturday.
Holding a 39-36 lead at halftime, the Bears opened the second half with a 19-4 run to take command of the game. The Bobcats committed five turnovers during that stretch, and allowed Northern Colorado to shoot 6-for-6 from the field and 2-for-3 from the free throw line.
"We had some breakdowns, and the other teams played crisp," MSU coach Brad Huse said of his team's defensive struggles on the weekend. Portland State shot 70% against MSU on Thursday. "We're just not getting stops right now."
After Northern Colorado extended its lead to 22 points on a Devon Beitzel layup with 11:18, the Bobcats battled back. MSU used 9-0 run to climb to within 13, and after a Jabril Banks dunk MSU scored five straight to get to within 10. That was as close as MSU got, however, as the Bears cruised to the 12-point win.
"You go through some ruts during the year," Huse said. "We hit one this weekend. We've had such a great run at home, we just couldn't get it going in either of these two games."
With the loss, MSU enters the Big Sky tournament as the sixth seed. The Bobcats play a first round game at Weber State on Saturday at 7 pm.
