Ellie Rudy and Dan Johnson Shine at Conference Indoor Meet

For her efforts, Rudy was honored as the Women’s Field Athlete of the meet.
“Awesome—finally. I made it on my third try and then went to 14 feet three inches,” Rudy said. “I was using a big pole, one I haven’t been on much and that was good because I’ll have to use that pole at nationals.” Rudy is an automatic qualifier for the NCAA national event in March.
Rudy’s teammate, Canadian freshman Stacy Irvine, placed second in the event with a jump of 12’5.5”. MSU junior Amy Plummer placed fifth at 11’11.75”
Senior sprinter Dan Johnson (Livingston) won the men’s 400 by over a second with a lifetime best of 46.68. His mark puts him currently eighth in the nation.
“I’m so excited,” Johnson said. “That time will definitely be competitive. But, I’ll have to go to Iowa next weekend to try and make sure I get qualified for nationals,” Johnson said. The NCAA Qualifier in Ames, Iowa is March 8, a last chance for collegiate athletes in the region to qualify for the NCAA Championships March 14-15 at Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Montana State’s men finished fifth in the conference event with 69 points. Sacramento State won both the men’s and women’s championships. MSU placed sixth on the women’s side with 56 points.
Bobcats with lifetime bests in the meet included Casey Clausen who placed fifth in the shot put with 51’4.25”, Amanda DeHaan (Belgrade) with a fifth in the 200 at 25.36, and Karen Helvey who placed third in the weight throw with a toss of 58’10” .
