Montana State travels to Missoula this week to take on interstate rival Montana. Earlier this season, the ‘Cats disposed of the Griz with a 74-58 win in front of a rowdy Brick Breeden crowd. The Griz trail the ‘Cats in the conference race and a win on Saturday could put MSU two games in the lead for fifth place going into the final three weekends of conference play.
Last Week:
Jan. 31: beat Eastern Washington, 64-57
Feb. 2: lost at Portland State, 85-96
Montana State split a pair of road games last weekend upending EWU in a come-from-behind victory at Reese Court, 64-57, and falling to a second half “Dominguez blitz” at Portland State, 85-96.

On Friday, the MSU hosts interstate rival Montana. The ‘Cats are looking to avenge an earlier season loss at Montana, and break out of a tie for third place in the conference standings. In that early season 13-point loss, three Bobcats scored in double figures, but Montana guard Sonya Rogers lit up the basket for 32 points.

Montana State’s two crucial home wins over the weekend put the ‘Cats into a three-way tie for third in the conference race with Northern Colorado and Portland State.

Feb. 8-9: Mountain States Invite at Pocatello, Idaho
This coming weekend, the ‘Cats travel to Pocatello, Idaho for an invite that will give them a tune-up for the conference championships to be held at the same site Feb. 29-March 1.

Women: 68-82
Despite losing in score to Idaho State at home last weekend, MSU qualified several more athletes for the Big Sky Conference Championships. In addition, Dan Johnson ran an NCAA provisional mark in the 400 (47.04) that broke the school record for the second consecutive week. Johnson’s mark ranks him sixth in the country among men’s Division I runners in the 400.

Last Week:
MSU skiers placed fifth at the Western States Invitational, and were led by the Nordic contingent. Anders Folleraas had two top ten finishes including a fourth in the men’s freestyle event while Kaelin Kiesel placed fifth in the freestyle event for the women.

After winning the doubles point, MSU earned wins from Kyle McDonald, Pawel Turzanski, Justin Hauck, and David Kovas to beat ranked opponent, UC-Davis in a hard fought match at Portland.

Montana State women’s tennis hosts conference opponent Northern Colorado this Friday at the MSU Tennis Center behind the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse. Matches begin at 9:00 a.m. Later in the day, the women will face Sam Houston State from Huntsville, Texas. The Bearkats are part of the Southland Conference.
