The ‘Cats are heading into their last weekend looking for two wins to stay alive as a possible host for the first round of the conference tourney. The ‘Cats are currently tied with Montana and Idaho State for fourth in the conference and could climb as high as third place with two wins this weekend. MSU lost to Portland State earlier in the season at Portland, 85-96 and won at Northern Colorado 70-67.
On Saturday night, MSU bids farewell to four seniors at their final regular season home game at the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse; Mecklen Davis, Casey Durham, Carlos Taylor, and Adrian Zamora.
Last Week:
Feb. 21: lost at Idaho State, 49-64
Feb. 23: lost at Weber State, 63-73
Montana State dropped two critical road games on their swing through Idaho and Utah over the weekend. Both nights the ‘Cats were out-rebounded by their opponents. Divaldo Mbunga (12) and Carlos Taylor (11) scored in double figures at ISU, while Taylor led the ‘Cats at Weber with 22 points.

Currently, the Montana State women are sitting alone in fourth place in the conference, just one game behind Idaho State. Montana is atop the conference at 11-2. MSU will hit the road for the first of three final games of the season starting with Northern Colorado on Saturday night. Earlier in the season, the ‘Cats lost to UNC at home 65-75.

The Bobcat women split their final homestand with a loss to Idaho State and a victory over Weber. In front of a hometown crowd on Saturday (Senior Night) that included her parents from Australia, Rebecca Mercer went off for a career high 35 points and set a single season MSU three-point +record with 67 treys, breaking the mark of 63 set by Sam Fluss during the 1994-95 campaign..
Indoor Track and Field

Feb. 29-March 1: Big Sky Conference Championships at Pocatello, Idaho
Montana State has qualified a total of 18 women and 13 men for the BSC Championships this coming weekend, with a total of 49 performances. MSU will also have four relay teams in the competition.
Last Week:
Feb. 22: Bobcat Open
MSU qualified two more performances for the BSC Champs on Friday at the Bobcat Open. Freshman Morgan Norgaard qualified in the shot put with a toss of 50’9.25 that gave him third place in the meet and first among MSU shot putters. Sophomore Dustin Cichosz placed third in the triple jump with 45’1.75”, and also qualified for the BSC Championships. The throwing crew also had a stellar day with senior Karen Helvey winning the women’s weight throw with a personal best of 57’0.75”, and senior Nate Palmer besting his longest weight throw mark by almost a foot at 58’11.5”.

The Montana State ski team finished seventh at the 2008 NCAA Western Region Championships, Saturday afternoon at Bridger Bowl and Bohart Ranch. Colorado won the team title with 555 points, followed by Utah 527, Denver 497, Alaska-Anchorage 458, New Mexico 445, Nevada 422, MSU 368, Western State 199 and Whitman 185. MSU’s top finish of the final day of competition belonged to Kaelin Kiesel, who placed tenth in the women’s 15-kilometer classical event. Kiesel finished the course in 59:06.72. She was followed by Karoline Teien, 21st, and Melina Park, 28th.

The Bobcats take off for the Red Rocks Invite this week at Sedona, Arizona. The 36-hole event takes place at Oakcreek Country Club. Six big sky schools will be at the event including Northern Colorado, Portland State, Montana and Idaho State, in addition to MSU and host Northern Arizona.
