Montana State Track and Field Finishes Strong at Bobcat Open

Montana State’s indoor track and field team proved they are peaking at the right time with 23 season best performances and two additional Big Sky Conference Championship qualifications at Saturday’s Bobcat Open in the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse.
Freshman Morgan Norgaard qualified for the conference championships in the shot put with a toss of 50’9.25 that gave him third place in the meet and first among MSU shot putters. Sophomore Dustin Cichosz placed third in the triple jump with 45’1.75”, and also qualified for the BSC Championships.
The men’s and women’s milers registered five season best marks: Elisabeth Driscoll (5:17.45), Katie Gilboy (6:06.56), Tyler Noland (4:31.83), Chris Baldus (4:32.12), and Dan Jackson (4:34.21).
The throwing crew also had a stellar day with senior Karen Helvey winning the women’s weight throw with a personal best of 57’0.75”, and senior Nate Palmer besting his longest weight throw mark by almost a foot at 58’11.5”.
Freshman Jessie Greany continued her dominance in the high jump event placing first at a height of 5’4.25”.
MSU men pole vaulters registered three season bests. Junior Nick Morrow won the event (16’2”), while two freshman, Thomas Geraghty (15’3”) and Asa Staven (12’7”) had bests as well in the vault. Staven also won the high jump, 6’4”.
This was the last chance for the Bobcats to qualify for the conference championships that will be held Feb. 29-March 1 at Pocatello, Idaho.
