Montana State’s Mercer Drops in 35 on Senior Night

Mercer connected on 10-of-22 from the field, including five-of-eight three-pointers. The native of Perth, Australia broke a 13-year Montana State record for single-season treys. Mercer has 67 three-pointers, breaking the mark of 63 set by Sam Fluss during the 1994-95 campaign.
Montana State (13-12, 8-5) swept Weber State (11-14, 5-8) for the first time since the 1995-96 season, ensuring the Bobcats a spot in the Big Sky Conference tournament.
“I thought our defense really dictated the game and got us pushing the ball very well on the offensive end,” said MSU head coach Tricia Binford. “Rebecca Mercer had a great Senior Night, and I really liked our composure throughout the game.”
Also in double-figures for Montana State was Jenny Heringer, who notched ten points, seven rebounds and five assists. Point-guard Erica Perry also had a solid performance with nine points, four steals and three assists.
MSU scored the opening basket of the game on a Perry layup and never relinquished the lead.
The Bobcats built a 39-26 lead at intermission.
In the second stanza, Montana State took its largest lead at 52-32 with 15:36 left on another Perry layin.
Weber State battled back to cut the margin to 71-62 with 2:24 remaining, but would get no closer.
For the game, MSU shot 46 percent from the field, including 54 percent in the opening period. WSU ended shooting 38 percent from the floor.
The Bobcats held a narrow 39-38 advantage under the boards, paced by a team-high 11 rebounds by Nubia Garcia.
