Colorado Leads NCAA Western Regional; Bobcat Skiers in Seventh

Colorado, which received a strong showing in the Nordic events, leads the pack with 266 points. The Buffs are followed by Denver 249, Utah 245, New Mexico 230, Nevada 219, Alaska-Anchorage 214, Montana State 212, Whitman 102, and Western State 95.
Montana State had one of its best outings in alpine as Andre Hokholt, a junior from Oslo, Norway, posted the best finish by a Bobcat male this winter. Hokholt finished third overall in the giant slalom with a two-run total of 1:49.02.
Hokholt had a consistent performance in both starts, recording the fifth best time in the second run, and the sixth best clocking in the opening race.
Gregory Berger of Nevada won the men’s title in 1:48.72.
In the women’s giant slalom, the Bobcats were paced by Amy Lattimer and Chichi Williams, who finished 11th and 12th overall. Lattimer logged the fifth fastest time in the first run of the event.
Jenny Lathrop of Denver won the women’s crown in 1:47.41.
In the Nordic events, MSU received solid performances by Anders Folleraas and Gunnar Kristiansen, who finished sixth and seventh, respectively.
Kit Richmond of Colorado placed first in the event with a clocking of 27:02.10.
The Bobcats women’s squad was minus its top racer of the season. Junior Claire Rennie was sidelined with an illness. Kaelin Kiesel picked up MSU finishing 12th overall in a time of 15:56.40.
Maria Grevsgaard captured the women’s title in 14:56.25.
The NCAA Western Regional would conclude on Saturday with the alpine slalom races, and the Nordic classical event.
Montana State will host the 2008 NCAA Skiing Championships, March 5-8.
