Larkin Guenther, a standout middle distance runner from Lander, Wyo., has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to join the Montana State track and field program, Bobcat coach Dale Kennedy announced Wednesday.
Guenther finished fourth in the Wyoming State Cross Country Championships last fall, and was the state 400 m runnerup last spring as a junior. Guenther also owns top-four finishes in the Wyoming High School Nordic ski championships, is a four-time academic letterwinner at Lander Valley High School, and is a member of the school's Interact Club community service organization.
"I think what Larkin has done on the track, combined with her cross country success, shows that she has a lot of potential in the mile at the collegiate level," Kennedy said. "She'll help us right away in cross country, and we're excited about her ability in the middle distance races on the track."
Kennedy said Guenther, who plans to major in environmental science at MSU, brings qualities to the Bobcat program similar to fellow Lander product Ariana Lee, a Big Sky Champion at MSU. "We're excited that another athlete from Lander is joining our program because of what a great gift Ariana was to MSU Track and Field. One of the things that drew Larkin to MSU was the experience Ariana had here."
