Johnson Leads Track Team at ISU

Dan Johnson, Ellie Rudy and Karen Helvey each earned wins for Montana State, while Johnson set another school record, at this weekend's Mountain States Games in Pocatello, Idaho.
"It was a pretty good meet for us," Bobcat coach Dale Kennedy said of the non-scoring event in Holt Arena, site of the 2008 Big Sky Indoor Track and Field Championships later in February. "I thought the kids competed pretty well. There were nine Division I teams there, it was a good meet, and I think the fact that we competed against that kind of competition and got on that track before the conference meet will help us down the road."
Johnson, a senior from Livingston, was one of the meet's standouts. He won the 200 (21.45) and 400 (47.44) meter dashes, setting the school record twice in the 200. In fact, when Johnson failed to set the school record in the 400 it was the first time in competition this season he failed to set a new school standard.
"Dan is really competing at a high level right now," Kennedy said. "He has been on an amazing run."
Helvey won the weight throw with a toss of 56-2.5, with Lise Kilgore finishing sixth (51-11). Rudy's 13-5.75 marked another pole vault win for the defending NCAA Indoor Champion.
MSU hosts the Fleet Feet Dual on Friday, with Montana and Weber State coming to Worthington Arena.
