Heavy Snow Hampers Western State Invite

Due to heavy snow, including a foot of fresh powder over night Thursday, accompanied by a steady fall on Friday, the women’s giant slalom event posted one run before canceling the race. The men’s event was scrapped all together and will take place at a later date.
The Nordic classical races, however, went off without a hitch.
Montana State sat in fourth place after the classical events.
Bobcat newcomer Anders Folleraas had a strong outing, placing ninth overall covering the course in 29:58.4.
He was followed by Gunnar Kristiansen, 19th, 31:17.2; Nathan Park, 20th, 31:24.7; and Ryan Scott, 30th, 32:55.3
Even Sletten of Utah won the men’s title in a clocking of 29:10.3
The Montana State women were paced by Kaelin Kiesel and Claire Rennie, who finished 17th and 18th, respectively.
They were followed by Karoline Teien, 25th, 21:58.0; Melina Park, 30th, 22:38.2; Fraiser Opel, 31st, 22:57.7; and Korie Steitz, 34th, 23:312.5.
Mo Grevsgaard of Colorado won the women’s crown in 19:03.7.
The single run of women’s giant slalom counted towards the team standings. The MSU alpine contingent posted 39 points.
Colorado leads the invitational with 234.5 points. The Buffaloes are followed by Utah 228, Denver 218.5, New Mexico 161, Nevada 144, MSU 137, Alaska-Anchorage 134, Whitman 77, Western State 45, and Wyoming 20.
The slalom and Nordic free style races will be held Saturday.
