Bobcat Track & Field Opens Indoor Season with Annual Blue-Gold

Despite the fact that the intrasquad event is the unofficial start of the season, the ‘Cats registered 18 marks that would have qualified for the conference championships. The group included six shot put marks, three each on the men’s and women’s side. Pat Eckerson led the men’s group with a toss of 52’1”. The conference qualifying mark is 50’6”. Eckerson also won the weight throw event throwing 59’7”.
Kris Shaffer led the women in shot put at 47’6”. The women’s qualifying mark is 43’0”. Junior Alli Jones threw 46’ 10”, and sophomore Amanda Murphy registered a mark of 43’ 4”.
Last year’s outdoor conference 400 champion and NCAA participant Dan Johnson won the men’s 55 (6.55), 200 (22.13), and 400 (49.4) meter races. Johnson is competing in his last season in collegiate track. All three of Johnson’s performances exceeded conference qualifying standards. Another veteran, Autumn Domitrovich also swept the women’s sprints with marks in the 55 and 200 above conference standards.
The returning women’s pole vault contingent of Ellie Rudy, Amy Plummer and Stacey Irvine placed one-two-three in the event with senior Ellie Rudy vaulting 13 feet. The NCAA provisional mark in the event is 12.95 feet. Rudy is looking to make her third run at the NCAA pole vault title this year. Returning veteran Bobby Biskupiak won the men’s pole vault with 16’0”.
Freshman sprinter Nick Puckett also ran a Big Sky qualifying time in the men’s 55with 6.56.
MSU opens the official indoor season on Jan. 16 at home.
