Verlanic Earns Academic Honor

Montana State center Jim Verlanic earned ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America District 7 honors on Thursday.
A senior from Anaconda, Verlanic has started eight of MSU’s nine games at center this year, missing only the season opener due to injury. Verlanic, whose father Ken played for the Bobcats in the 1970s, carries a 3.71 cumulative grade point average (out of 4.0) in Biomedical Science and Ecology and Evolution. He plans to attend medical school.
“These awards were created for players exactly like Jim,” Bobcat coach Rob Ash said. “He represents the best qualities of college athletics with his superior performance in the classroom and the ability to transfer that to the field. Jim is a tough competitor as a football player and an exceptional student, and he represents this program very well.”
By earning all-district honors Verlanic earns entry onto the ballot for national Academic All-America honors.
