Friday night’s contest against intra-state rival Montana has been dubbed the ‘Shake Shroyer’ match. The Bobcats are shooting to sell out its home-court of Shroyer Gym. The first 500 people through the gate will receive a free Shake Shroyer t-shirt.

The Montana State volleyball team will host the annual ‘Cat-Griz clash this Friday in Shroyer Gym. The all-time series record is even at 43-43 dating back to the 1976 campaign; however, the Grizzlies have captured the last five matches between the intra-state rivals. UM won the ealier contest Oct. 3- 26-24, 25-17, 25-21 in Missoula. The Bobcats are currently 3-19 overall and 0-12 in Big Sky play. MSU will look to snap its current 15-match, and 32-match Big Sky losing streaks on Friday. Montana is 10-12 overall and 6-6 in Big Sky Conference action. Former MSU associate head coach Jerry Wagner is in his third season in Missoula and is looking for his first winning campaign with the Grizzlies. Montana currently sits in fifth place in the Big Sky Conference standings.
The Week That Was:
The Montana State volleyball team dropped a pair of Big Sky Conference matches last week. MSU opened with a 25-14, 25-17, 25-19 loss to Portland State on Thursday night. The Bobcats hit .062 from the floor and registered 31 kills, while committing 24 errors. For the match, MSU was led by Kyla Hendry and Kaytlin Van Burger with nine kills apiece. Defensively, senior Laura Viren guided the Bobcats with ten digs, while libero Meghan Albsiton added nine. On Saturday night, Montana State jumped out early and captured the first set against Eastern Washington, before falling 19-25, 25-19, 25-18, 25-9 to the Eagles. The Bobcats hit a red-hot .378 from the field in the opening stanza. In the final three sets, MSU hit only .040 from the floor. For the second straight night, Kyla Hendry guided the Bobcats with a career-matching performance. Hendry ended the match with 10 kills, while hitting .350 and adding three blocks. Also posting ten kills was outside hitter Jodeen Rademacher. The native of Adams, Neb., also notched a double-double with ten digs. Albiston led MSU defensively with a team-high 14 saves.
The Scouting Report:
The Montana volleyball team is 10-12 overall and 6-6 in Big Sky play. Last weekend, the Grizzlies defeated Eastern Washington, 3-0, before dropping a 3-1 decision to Portland State. Jaimie Thibeault, one of the league’s top middle blockers, paced UM averaging 3.43 kills and 1.14 blocks, while hitting a whopping .417 from the field. On the season, Montana is led by Amy Roberts, who is averaging 3.09 kills per set. Thibeault paces the Grizzlies in hitting percentage and blocking, while Brittney Brown is averaging a team-best 4.26 digs. Setter Taryn Wright is dishing out 9.70 assists per game.
‘Cat Chat:
Senior Laura Viren broke into MSU’s all-time career digs list at No. 10 with 843 saves, surpassing Jenny Ohnsorg’s (1992-95) mark of 840 digs...Kyla Hendry is ranked sixth in the Big Sky Conference averaging .91 blocks...Taylor Faught is listed seventh in assists per game at 8.62...Libero Meghan Albiston ranks 9th in the Big Sky in digs, averaging 3.68 per set.
Stand Up and Cheer:
Despite its 1-27 overall record and 0-12 home slate last fall, the Bobcats averaged 840 fans per game, which was the best in the Big Sky Conference. MSU drew a season-best 1,287 for the annual ‘Cat-Griz match. This year, MSU is averaging 818 fans per match, which ranks 40th in the nation.
Player of the Week:
Kyla Hendry had her best back-to-back matches of the season recording 19 kills and six blocks in MSU’s two matches. For the weekend, Hendry averaged 2.71 kills and .86 blocks, while hitting .267 from the field. She had her best outing of the weekend against Eastern Washington with 10 kills, a .350 attack mark and three blocks.
Stat of the Week:
The ‘Cats hit a season set best .378 (1) vs. E. Wash., connecting on 16-2-37 from the floor.
